INTERVIEW: Jason De Carteret, Chief Executive Officer, Solarcentury Africa, Leading the market leader in solar PV and storage solutions across Africa.

Solarcentury Africa is delivering smart, efficient, and reliable clean energy solutions—using innovative design, advanced technology, and strong control systems to power businesses, communities, and investments in a sustainable and cost-effective way. Over 19-multi-megawatt projects have been developed, designed, installed, and delivered across Africa, in Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, DRC, Malawi, Mozambique, Botswana, Namibia, Eritrea, Zambia and Zimbabwe, all incorporating Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

Jason leads the Solarcentury Africa team. He has over 35 years of African experience. Prior to joining Solarcentury Africa, Jason worked for a leading emergency power provider on major projects in EMEA. Jason joined Solarcentury Africa in 2018, a technology agnostic company that has been delivering multiple solar PV and energy storage projects in challenging regions such as DRC, Eritrea and Nigeria. Jason brings a strong understanding of both thermal and renewable technologies together with a deep knowledge of the mining industry. His insight and strategic viewpoint are invaluable in helping deliver innovative technical designs that bring significant advancements in reliability and cost savings to end clients.

• Solar Century Africa runs on an integrated model encompassing designing, building, owning and operating solar projects as well as handling the financial and commercial aspects. How does such a model best facilitate private sector participation in energy infrastructure development on the continent?

Solarcentury Africa’s fully integrated model – covering inception, design, construction, ownership, operation, and financing – lowers entry barriers for private sector players by de-risking projects and streamlining fast tracked execution. This approach ensures bankability, long-term operational reliability, and faster delivery of sustainable energy infrastructure, creating investor confidence and unlocking private capital participation across Africa.

• What conversations do you look forward to having with key stakeholders at the Africa PPP summit?

We look forward to engaging with governments, utilities, financiers and clients on structuring effective public-private partnerships, aligning regulatory frameworks, and identifying renewable energy projects where Solarcentury Africa’s forward thinking and innovative model can drive sustainable growth and accelerate Africa’s energy transition.
