Travel Advice

Health and well-being

Apart from standard vaccinations such as tetanus, polio, diphtheria, whooping cough, and hepatitis B, no additional vaccines are required to enter Namibia. However, malaria prophylaxis is recommended if you plan to travel to northern regions of the country. Windhoek and most southern/central areas are malaria-free. It’s advised to carry personal medication, sun protection, and stay well-hydrated due to Namibia’s dry climate.

Currency in Namibia

The official currency of Namibia is the Namibian Dollar (NAD), which is pegged to the South African Rand (ZAR) at a 1:1 ratio. South African Rand is also widely accepted throughout Namibia.

How to pay?

In Namibia, payments can be made using cash or credit/debit cards. Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted, especially in hotels, restaurants, and shops. A small commission (usually around 1%) may be charged depending on your bank. It is advisable to carry some cash for smaller vendors and rural areas.

Where to change currencies?

Currency can be exchanged at the airport, major banks, or licensed exchange bureaus in Windhoek. ATMs are also widely available and offer a convenient way to withdraw cash in Namibian dollars using an international card. Avoid street currency exchanges for safety reasons.
