Travel Advice

Health and well-being

Apart from standard vaccinations such as tetanus, polio, diphtheria, whooping cough, and hepatitis B, no additional vaccines are required to enter Kenya. However, malaria prophylaxis is recommended if you plan to travel to northern regions of the country. Windhoek and most southern/central areas are malaria-free. It’s advised to carry personal medication, sun protection, and stay well-hydrated due to Kenya’s dry climate.

Currency in Kenya

The official currency is the Kenyan Shilling (KES).

How to pay?

In Kenya, payments can be made using cash or credit/debit cards. Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted, especially in hotels, restaurants, and shops. A small commission (usually around 1%) may be charged depending on your bank. It is advisable to carry some cash for smaller vendors and rural areas.

Where to change currencies?

Currency can be exchanged at the airport, major banks, or licensed exchange bureaus. ATMs are also widely available and offer a convenient way to withdraw cash in Kenyan Shilling using an international card. Avoid street currency exchanges for safety reasons.
