Eng. Dr. Mativo has over 25 years working experience in both the public and private sector accumulating extensive experience in research, planning, design, construction supervision and contract management for transmission infrastructure, residential houses, office blocks and marine structures.
Prior to joining KETRACO, he worked with H.P. Gauff Consulting Engineer, Ministry of Roads and Public Works and later as a Consultant for European Union -funded projects in the Local Government.
1.What key projects and investments are in the pipeline at KETRACO and what is the scope for private sector participation?
We have over 700kms of PPP transmission projects at negotiation and proposal stage including the 179km 400kV Lessos Loosuk and the 140km Rumuruti-Maralal transmission lines’ projects. We are engaging with a wide range of proponents including Africa 50, PowerGrid, EDF France, AEE Power and ENCOMM.
We are also procuring transaction advisors for several solicited PPPs including the 53 km 220kV Kwale -Shimoni (Kibuyuni), the 132kV Meru-Maua and the 145 km 220 kV Kiambere-Maua-Isiolo projects.
2.What conversations do you look forward to having with key stakeholders at the upcoming Africa PPP Summit?
We look forward to discussing KETRACO’s rationale and road map for rolling out electricity transmission infrastructure under PPP as well as the status of ongoing PPPs along with lessons learned and insights for any country interested in rolling out transmission infrastructure PPPs.
